3xWRT54g + WDS +howto + same hotspot?
« on: August 02, 2009, 12:25:50 pm »
hi,
i have installed 3 router (dd-wrt v24sp2) with chillispot.
i use in all routers the same connection profils, so it looks like i would have only one hotspot.
for one reason i can anly access on only one router. it looks like that only the last rebootet hotspot works.

i can only make the wlan over the chillispot otherwise my hotspot would not work.

do you have a howto install chillispot with wds?

Hi

I've never made the setup. But from What I've read here are some instructions.
WDS extends the bridge between the LAN ports and the WIFI.
So you need first to setup chillispot to handle both WLAN+LAN on the main router.
Before that it is strongly recommended that you access to the web interface from the WAN port.
Disable DHCP on all routers.

On repeaters, disable DHCP, disable WAN, setup the LAN to different addresses  manually (192.168.1.x), and enable WDS on all routers.

Feedback is welcome.

the problem is that i can“t setup chillispot to handle both WLAN+LAN because my computers in the lan does not work any more.
if i setup more than one hotspot in wordspot.net, could i use the user login from hotspot one in hotspot two?

You should have your private computers on the WAN side of your hotspot (handled by another router or your modem router)

Yes. But you would pay 2 subscriptions (if you subscribe)

You should use WDS to share the subscription

For the webcam, you can create a mac address ticket, and let the webcam use dhcp to get its ip address.
This should be explained in the documentation.

You can also dedicate a router for your private computers lan and a private wifi for your webcam, and use another router for the hotspot controller and the others as WDS repeaters.

router 1:connectet to the internet, worldspot, wds, WLAN
router 2:wds, WLAN
router 3:wds, WLAN
router 4: wds, WLAN

Hi franks,

router 1 to 3 works. I have them working. But you need no chilli on routers 2 and 3.
Router 4 should work as well, but it is not recommended, since the clients on router 4 have only one quarter bandwidth as compared with clients on router 1.
Better experiment with Yagi antennae for the clients to bridge the distance or make wire connection and set up a a second access point.
To set up WDS follow http://worldspot.net/forum/index.php/topic,37.msg258.html#msg258.

BarkingDog's remarks about the WDS configuration of the router 1 are essential:

Chillispot config requirements:

    * Don't separate the LAN and WLAN.
    * In the additional Chillispot options:  dynip 192.168.182.0/25

i have dd-wrt v24sp2
there are the options
- LAN
- eth0
- eth1
- etherip0
- vlan0

the connection over wds and wlan should use the dhcp.
the computer conected by cable should not use the hotspot.

Sorry, I use v23sp2 and all the other recmds. are based on this version. Maybe someone can help you with your version, where the options are different from v23 or you downgrade.

This is not possible, otherwise the clients on the WDS have free access.
Why not connect your LAN to the router which you use to connect to the internet.

As I mentioned: Don't separate the LAN and WLAN (in v.23sp2). I tested hours, even days.
For my version there are no other other options possible than the recommended ones.

If you want to have a working system: downgrade to Firmware: DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) std and follow the instructions quoted above.

If you want to do it with your firmware: experiment with different options and report here, when you found a working solution.

I think it is not possible to do what you want easily with dd-wrt.
WDS extends le bridge between the WIFI and the lan ports, and I don't think it is possible to change this in this firmware (through the web admin).
Your wired computers should be connected on the WAN side of the hotspot. They would connect directly through your modem router, you might just need an ethernet switch on your WAN side.
