Link to Paypal payment is slllllloooooooow
« on: June 12, 2010, 11:43:27 pm »
U.S.A. user here with no complaints except the payment link to Paypal is incredibly slow.    I've set my Worldspot hotspot configuration to "No banner in Paypal pages" hoping this would solve the problem, but between getting the payment pages to render and actually making the payment the entire process must take 5-10 minutes.  All other web surfing have I have no problem.

Help!!!

Hi

What is your firmware?
If coova, have you set the automatic configuration?
Paypal is a known problem on chillispot that has been resolved with coova-chilli and the new uamdomains option.

Using my router running DD-WRT with Chillspot (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/22/09) std-nokaid).  Uamdomains set to www.paypal.com,www.paypalobjects.com,paypal.112.2o7.net.

dd-wrt chillispot does not support uamdomains option.
It uses the older inadapted uamallowed option.
Upgrading to coova should fix your problem.
This is the main reason dd-wrt is not recommended.

OK.  So I'm a newbie here.  How would I upgrade to coova.  Would that mean ditching dd-wrt?

Yes
I'm not sure if coova-chilli has been ported to dd-wrt.
Depending on your hardware, you would choose coovaAP firmware, or openwrt kamikaze which needs some file editing.
I will post a howto for kamikaze one day.

SOLVED!!

After upgrading to the newest build (6/9/10) and doing some tweaking, I choose to ENABLE AP isolation and DISABLE Masquerade / NAT (on a virtual interface) and my connection to Paypal was improved dramatically.  Still need more testing, but this is great.

EDIT:   May have jumped the gun on this.  Paypal connections are better, but instead of 5-10 mins, it's more like 4-7 mins.  Still not as good as normal web surfing.

I have the same problem, Paypal is very slow under chillispot (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std)...

I read in the web to add some paypal ip adress in UAM Allowed field because the Paypal ip address often change and DNS have some difficulty to resolved it, so i added this line:

www.paypal.com,www.paypalobjects.com,paypal.112.2o7.net,64.4.241.0,216.113.188.0,66.211.169.2,66.211.169.65,66.211.168.0,66.211.169.65,66.211.170.66

But i don't know if it was a good idea?
Can it cause new problems ?

Thanks

Because paypal use a very specific dns management to handle its multiple servers, the old version of chillispot can't handle paypal connection correctly.
These addresses are quite old and may not be up to date.

You must use new coova-chilli option uamdomain instead of uamallowed to connect to paypal. Coova-chilli is not supported under dd-wrt.
You must use coovaAP or openwrt.
