Coova Ap connection problems
« on: July 19, 2010, 06:35:49 pm »
Hi, Our internet provide has changed to use a static IP. The internet providers router is setup to assign the public address to the Wrt54g running Coova Ap (via DHCP).

Although the wrt54g gets the ip address correctly, the router cannot get its settings from worldspot to setup the hotspot (see the syslog) and i cannot ping the internet from the wrt54g

The network status looks ok?

Am i missing anything obvious. Previous to the provider setting a static IP their router gave an dynamic address to the wrt54g which allowed the hotpot to operate. I dont understand what is different with a static address

Thanks

Dan

These status look very strange indeed.
Is your WAN setup with DHCP?
You don't have any gateway in your routing table.
Please contact your ISP to get more information with the settings you need.

Yes the WAN is setup with DHCP.

It seems the ISP's router is only assigning an IP address, but not giving any other information to the Wrt54g as to routing information.

I assume the DHCP server also communicates the gateway addresses and DNS server infromation?

Yes dhcp should give the ip, the mask, the gateway, the dns.
You need at least the gateway.
Then you can use public dns like opendns.
