Blocking abusive users
« on: February 18, 2007, 06:09:39 am »
Is there a way to limit/disallow access to the hotspot - for example a "banned MAC/email" list?

No not really.
Do you mean you would like to deny people that use your free access?
But How would you know that a user is abusing?
If it is volume or connection time, just limit it.

Hi
Please give your hotspot name, I'll investigate on this.
If you don't require validated users, they should log as anonymous, and the mac address should be used to set the limitations.
If you click on require validated users, there is a protection mechanism that prevent user to validate the email again...

I've had a look, there seem to be some abuse indeed.
Could you please tell me if you changed your hotspot settings recently?
If yes, what were they?
Thanks for reporting.

Only thing was that i put the mail verification on, so i dident have any anonymous log in. And then I could see that they just made a new mail adress.

Hey anything new ?
I have tested this and it is posebly to just make new accounts!  as many as you like! - think there is a bug somwhere - isent the software suposed to check on the MAC ? so that you only can create one account ?
all you kneed on my hotspot is to create f.eks 6 accounts then you are running free fore one hour.

I'm looking at the code again.

If you have a subscription, the workaround is to use a multiple usage ticket, and give the login/pass in the welcome page.

Is ocay    8)     I can se that you stopped the use of the 5 min free e-mail to validate thats ocay - but the can still use my 10 minits free acces to make 50 news acounts and validate them, some hove you kneed to check the mac against the E-mail and the time to stop this hole.

This is what I changed yesterday:
When you don't select "require validated users", only anonymous users can use the free profiles. When you login, you don't have access to free profile, so there should be no more abuse.

I double checked on your hotspot, and don't see the "hole" anymore.
Could you please confirm there is still a hole, and your procedure if there is one.

Thank you

it still dosent work -i have a free profile that ofers 10minuts fore free resetting after 6 hours and that is working well.
But when you are in you can make all the acounts you like on the same MAC and the same E-mail, and that is what I want to have blocked ( maybe just on a time base f.eks 24h)
P.S I dont want any annonymus acces on the hotspot.

You can create other accounts, but you can't connect to validate them, there is a protection against that.
However, it is possible that the user click on the validation link on another internet access.

I will find a way to block this.
The problem is that I can't detect the MAC address in a reliable way in the uam page, unless you use the latest coova beta.5 which has a protection mechanism for that.
It is reliable only in the radius side.
I will make some more checks there.

Thanks for reporting.
