DD-WRT vs OpenWRT: Some comments
« on: October 19, 2006, 01:53:59 am »
I have now implemented Chiilispot/worldspot using these two methods:

1) WRT54GL (4 MB Flash) + OpenWRT

2) WRT54GL (4 MB Flash) + DD-WRT

The big problem I hit with DD-WRT is that there is no flash memory available as virtual disk for me to write my own files. e.g. a 'Welcome.html' that unauthenticated users see first. This is documented at www.dd-wrt.org with 4 MB boxes .. there is simply not enough room left in flash memory.

Yes - I know that Worldspot allows you to edit PART of the 1st Worldspot screen .. but not 100%. I want to offer my customers a 'splash screen' that advertises the motel/cafe/etc in a totally customised way.

So....if you do NOT want a fully customised splash screen: DD-WRT is easiest. Otherwise I prefer OpenWRT.

The full page customization will be done soon.
However, the ticket system will be made compatible with other chillispot hotspot login pages. The original hotspotlogin.cgi will work. It is not the case actualy, this will be done very soon.

The original hotspotlogin.cgi will work.

That will be great as it makes a simple way of making the login process 100% customisable.

Today I suceeded in doing this:

WRT = Chilli + hotspotlogin.cgi
RADIUS_SERVER = radius.chillispot.org  (for testing)

And as hotspotlogin.cgi contains all the HTML for the login screens I can fully customise with my customer's logo etc. I look forward to when worldspot.net is compatible with the 'standard' hotspotlogin.cgi.

Change was made.
I could succesfully test worldspot tickets with the original hotspotlogin.cgi script.
This only work with tickets.
Don't forget to change the uamsecret inside the hotspotlogin script to match worldspot's uamsecret.
