chillispot help plz?
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:12:13 pm »
Hi there

I'm tryiing to setup a hotspot but I'm having a few difficulties!

Im running dd-wrt v23 sp1 on a linksys wrt54gl

I've inputted all the details that I recieved from your email.... The wifi clients are not getting redirected to the login screen and are getting unlimited access to the internet!

The ip's assigned seem to be normal ip's and not ips assigned by chillispot! I've turned off all dhcp servers tho!

Any possible reasons would be great!

Thanks

I dont know a thing about chillispot, but have you;
1: put receive ip-addresses automatically
2: Connected to the hotspot-routers SSID and not another wireless SSID
3: Connected the Internett port on the hotspot to the network, and not an cable from the rest of the network into the switch of the hotspot?

Good luck!

Hi

Can you please connect yo your router with ssh/telnet and check that you have internet?
To do that enable sshd service, and in management enable remote ssh

Then use a tool like putty to connect.

Then do a ping to google.com, and type 'ifconfig' and copy the output to here.
the output of 'nvram show' also...

Regards

Is your modem doing NAT? (sharing the internet connection?)
(Is it a router modem? ) (is it a gateway?) ... (all are the same question... ;))

will you have computers in your lan?

If yes for all, then your WAN ip is wrong.
Try 192.168.1.100 for example.
put 192.168.1.1 as your gateway and 255.255.255.0 for your WAN mask.
Don't forget your DNS (which should be your router modem)

If it is a simple modem, then DDWRT will have to do both hotspot and router. This is possible, but has to be tested before. I think you will have to use ddwrt v24 for that.

what did the ping say?
ifconfig?
then try to ping your gateway

Hi

soz for omitting the ipconfig output, here it is:

Ethernet adapter lan:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix .....:  ( why no dns server ?)
Ip address ...................................:192.168.1.7
Subnet Mask.................................:255.255.255.0
Default gateway...........................:192.168.1.1

My modem is sharing internet connection( it is a simple modem with 1 x ethernet port and1 usb port. It however can act as a DHCP. I cannot get putty to work. My modem is connected to my wrt54gl's ethernet port 1 and my computer is connected to ethernet port 2. I can access the internet with this setup.

The modem has 4 modes :  RFC 1483 Bridged
                                        :   RFC 2516 PPPoE
                                        :   RFC 2364 PPPoA
                                        :   Bridged mode only

I am currently using RFC 2516 PPPoE on my modem

My wrt54gl has 4 modes : Gateway
: BGP   ( wtf is this?)
                                       : RIP2 router ( wtf is this?)
: OSPF Router ( wtf is this?)

I am currently using Gateway mode

My modem is connected to my wrt54gl's ethernet port 1 and my computer is connected to ethernet port 2. I can access the internet with this setup.

Am I correct in saying that the modem, wireless router and wan port all need to have different IP ranges???

ie 192.168.x.1
    192.168.x.1
    192.168.x.1

Thanks alot

When you say port 1, is it a LAN port?
It must be connected on the "internet" (WAN) port.

Could display your assigned ip, mask and gateway on your computer when connected this way?
I'm not sure your modem is doing NAT.

You did not tell what is your computer ip address when connected to your modem. This is important.

Could you please try this:

-Enable remote management + ssh
-set your WAN ip to static ip:
  192.168.1.100 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 + dns:192.168.1.1 (or your isp dns)
- set you LAN ip to 192.168.2.1
- connect your modem on the Internet port of your DDWRT

then from your computer, ssh your DDWRT and ping google.com

I can ping google.com when the modem is connected into any ethernet lan port.

When I connect wish putty the program quits as soon as I press enter!

Please confirm this

modem                      192.168.1.1
router wan port ip     192.168.1.100
router lan ip               192.168.2.1
my desktop pc lan ip 192.168.1.6

Thanks

You must configure ssh to work on the WAN port (in remote management)
did you ssh to 192.168.1.100?

If your pc is connected to the LAN ports try to ssh to 192.168.2.1
Maybe chillispot is active on the lan port. disable your computer ip (set it to automatic dhcp), and see if chillispot will assign an address.

If not try to disable chillispot and connect to 192.168.2.1 (and the internet)

I forgot:
If your modem has only one port, you have 2 solutions:
The first one should be compatible with your router version.
Go to setup/VLANS
there you should see vlan0 is your lan ports 1 2 3 4
and vlan1 is your internet port
assign port 1 from vlan0 to vlan1 and connect your computer on it.
You should be able to connect the internet, and reach your router management at 192.168.1.100
drawback: authenticated chillispot users will have access to your computer.

The other solution is to use DDWRT v24 and setup chillispot to work only on the wireless. This is more complicated and less stable. I will make a howto for that soon.

Soz 4 long reply I was away weekend!

I read your post on upgrading to sp23v2!

I think i'll do that and then try and configure chillispot!
.
I tried to ssh 192.168.1.100 but didnt work

Do you think that it is possible to post or upload http://load.imageshack.us/  a "print - screen" of your router settings?

Thanks
